What is NEAR Protocol?

NEAR Protocol is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform designed to make dApps (decentralized applications) scalable, user-friendly, and accessible. NEAR focuses on improving blockchain usability and scalability through unique technology that supports high throughput, low transaction fees, and rapid confirmation times. Developer-Friendly Features: NEAR uses a powerful, WebAssembly-based runtime that supports languages like Rust and AssemblyScript, making it easy for developers to build on the platform.



NEAR Founder and History


Founded in 2018 by Alexander Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin, both experienced developers and entrepreneurs, this protocol was initially focused on creating a machine-learning platform before shifting to blockchain development. Skidanov, formerly at Microsoft and MemSQL, and Polosukhin, a former Google engineer with expertise in deep learning and artificial intelligence, recognized the need for a user-friendly, scalable blockchain infrastructure. In 2020, NEAR launched its mainnet, addressing scalability and usability issues faced by many other blockchains.


Since then, the team has raised significant funding, built a growing community, and established partnerships to expand its ecosystem.
